The search of the perfect groove and the essence of soul music are the main motivations that have led the Spanish band VenueConnection to record their 4th studio album, "State of Mind", that will be released on September 2015.

With a more personal sound than in previous works, the band blends soul, funk, jazz and rock, in an organic and positive album that, in words of the band, "searches for the connection with the soul of the listener" and that "was recorded live in order to capture the magic of musicians playing together". The popular mastering engineer Bob Katz has already said that the sound of the album is "a treat to the ears".

The origins of the band date back to 2002 and are located in the Northeast corner of Spain, where guitarist and producer Javier del Aguila and sitarist Fara Alvarez join forces to create an electronic jazz soul project, recruiting later Angeles Dorrio on vocals for their debut album "Strawberry Swan Lake".

In 2007 they work together with the South Carolina-born Karl Frierson, main singer of the lounge music ambassadors “De-Phazz” and one of the few heirs of the American soul old school of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder or Curtis Mayfield. They release “Madrid Boogie” in 2008 through the German label Phazz-a-delic, an ambitious project to take VenueConnection’s music further and that features other highly talented musicians of the Spanish jazz and soul scene such as Roman Filiu, Sergio Delgado or Mauri Sanchís. “Madrid Boogie” is acknowledged as “Best Album of the Year” by Acid Jazz Hispano, the most relevant web in Spanish for black music lovers, and takes the band to play in some of the most prestigious clubs in Spain and to be featured internationally in radio, TV and compilations.

As if this wasn’t enough, the band decides to take a step forward in search of the “perfect groove” and they gather in the summer of 2010 to record their third studio album “the old way”, keeping the energy of live music by recording with musicians playing together. To this end, they build their own studio in the hot Southeast of Spain and recruit Igor Prochazka “Mr Hands” on the Rhodes piano., the most popular soul music website in America, chose “Fire It Up” as one of the best albums of 2011, and said about it:

“VenueConnection has topped itself with its biggest pride and joy to date – Fire It Up – which delivers sizzling funk, tasteful slow jams and passionate vocals by Angeles Dorio and Karl Frierson. This offering harkens to jazz funk’s golden era of the late seventies. And thanks to the crisp foundations from drummer/percussionist Miguel Cabana and Javier del Aguila’s swift bass guitar lines, VenueConnection nails all the groove pockets with sheer precision”
